A bit of a struggle the first few weeks with the intermediary company because the residence is on the other side of the city, it took an hour and a bit to get there by public transport. In fact I went to look at some shared flats to rent a room a bit more centrally located. But in the end it seems that the residence has a bus that leaves those of us who are working at the door of work. So the residence is pretty good.
The work is also very good. The colleagues are nice. The bosses too. They seem to be happy with what I do. Basically, what we IT interns do is to adjust web pages that are already partly built (although not all of them are online) or to finish them. Sometimes we are even doing some part of the same project. That’s a bit messy, because each one of us has a different way of programming and in the end everything gets a bit messed up, to avoid that they should have a company style manual. But even so, it’s great. There is a lot of learning on your own while you have doubts (the normal thing in this field) and then if you have serious doubts there is a senior programmer you can ask. The tasks are distributed by a guy who is the one who receives the calls from the clients or the mails. The frameworks we use are Opencart and WordPress. Two months is very little time, very little.
About the city, I personally like it. There is a lot of immigration here. Indians, Eastern Europeans and Poles. And of course, Spaniards (although Poles predominate). The people are generally very nice, always willing to help. However, it is not the quietest city in the world and you have to be careful. There are areas of the city that you are advised to stay away from (apparently there are gangs and families and occasionally stabbings and so on). And in the centre you have to be careful at certain times, because there are junkies. It’s a pity, because the centre is great. The thing about paying for everything with a credit card, that’s a lie! Here, as in Spain, you can’t pay for a beer with a card in every bar. In general, everything is more expensive. The intercity bus costs 2€ (no matter how short the journey), a coffee in a café costs 2€ (no matter if it’s espresso). Avoid Spar, which is like shopping at a petrol station because it’s so expensive (although they do have a cocoa cream that’s great). Cheaper local produce, such as mushrooms, carrots, cabbage and turnips.
And there is a lot of humidity. Limerick is what it has, I refer to “Angela’s Ashes”. It seems that the river Shanon, which flows through the city, is to blame. As for the weather, it hasn’t rained much since I’ve been here, but when it has, an umbrella is of little use. Better a mackintosh, or, since we are people from the north, na de ná. It rains and the sun comes out and it rains and the sun comes out and so on ad infinitum. And there are rainbows literally everywhere, here people don’t even bat an eyelid”.

THANKS JULIA!!!

Now a nice picture from Julia at her job workstation:

ACADEMIC YEAR 2018-19: ACADEMIC YEAR 2013-14: JULIA VICENTE is a 2nd year student of Web Application Development who is in[…]

["post-154","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
